[attr="class","basich"]REINCARNATION
[attr="class","basicp"]
The thing about stories is, the ones with the longest shelf lives always have a grain of truth to them. But we’re not here to tell you which story to believe.
Whatever the actual history is, reincarnation plays a very real role in the lives of both humans and monsters alike. There is a magical web strung over the entire world, crystallized over the course of thousands of years. Its bonds are what causes souls to reincarnate simultaneously.
A contract is created between a monster and a mortal when a mortal kills a monster, and never the other way around. This killing does not have to be particularly moral, or even intentional. An accidental poisoning and a vicious stabbing are weighed the same. This bond usually involves two people.
In extremely rare cases, more than one killer can be involved. The same rules apply. No soul in a contract can reincarnate in a generation without their fated.
The mortal champion is fated to cause the death of their initial victim for all of eternity. The only way for a monster to avoid being killed (intentionally or otherwise) is to slay their champion first, though they are under no magical obligation to do so.
In exchange for a more certain death, monsters are not able to die by any other unnatural means. If their champion dies before they do, then they will live out their rest of their natural lifespans without fear of foul play.
Champions are not afforded this same protection. They die like any other human. Champions who die of disease in infancy have essentially given their monster a free pass to murder, procreate, and compose shitty limericks all they like.
Memories from past incarnations may be bought in the site shop.
