THE SKY IS LOOKING GREY SO I'LL KEEP MY HEAD DOWN INSTEAD

smoke gathered in the marshy fields surrounding the industrialized new town. orfiel kept his composure, low to the ground. maps were scattered on small platters among the floor, plotted to match every move the group was to make. he slowly rolled them up, taking his time; marking each one appropriately depending on location and started packing them up in chronological order. organization is important. orfiel usually doesn't pay attention to such things. it's not laziness, but he'd rather just do other things. there are wiser ways to spend your time. but in this case, organization was vital. everything must be planned. prepared. it was his job today, and he would probably do it again tomorrow. call it devotion. that's the term he uses anyway. but is it fear?there was a pinky grey sort of haze covering his face, and the low hum of factories surrounding. but even with the sound of generators, orfiel still can hear the footsteps. but he doesn't panic-- there's nothing to hide here. no one will know what these maps say. no one could possibly decipher the scribbles and x's on the wrinkled papers...right? TAKE ME TO CHURCH i worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies i'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife offer me that deathless death good god let me give you my life It boggles Erik's mind that humans can be so strange at times.
For example, he didn't mean to bump into the lady who was walking in the opposite direction as him on the sidewalk. He'd apologized, asked if she was alright, and she'd reacted as if he were a brute, as if he really did have the intention of hurting her. He could only merely blink as she drilled him for what he'd done wrong, and then stomped off on her un-merry way. Then there was the old man whom lived next door who was only nice. Being neighbors, Erik offered to have tea with the man, and he was genuinely surprised when his offer was taken. After that, he was certain he had found a friend in the man, proven correctly by the way his wife continued to leave little treats outside his door whenever she'd cook. In all honesty, Erik wasn't certain if he really understood them at all, what with how much they varied. He'd wondered if hiding in one of the more densely populated cities was a good idea at all, if he truly was blending in as well as he had hoped he was. Then there was the matter of how much he detested New Town. The haze that covered the air felt stale at best, despite being outside. He'd frowned on his first trip into the industrialized center, but after visiting time and time again, the smell was becoming something he almost could have grown accustomed to (that is, if it didn't smell as if it was killing everything living in the proximity). In an effort to leave the swam or people as well as give his head a break from the stale smell, Erik slipped inside a building that, at least to him, looked empty. After a turn from the main hallway though, he found that he was terribly wrong. Mainly, the only thing he noticed was the man with the maps scattered all around him, but as Erik watched the people scattered about packing to leave, he realized that he had shown up at the tail end of a meeting of some sort. While his instincts told him to back out and return to the streets, his curiosity was what led him to the man still situated on the floor, fixing him with a grin. "Excuse me, but do you know what I seemed to have missed?"ORFIEL, it's ok this post is kind of bad as well. |

there are many things orfiel can remember-- just as there are many things he cannot. for example, orfiel doesn't particularly remember his schooling. he did get quite educated (although he never enrolled in any college courses or went to a university) but that sort of thing isn't something he wishes to remember at all. that would clog his brain-- it'd be wasted space. he remembers some parts of the many books he has read. pages, chapters, themes. he remembers a book he read. the protagonist- orfiel, the theme- a boy's death. in his own parents' bedroom. you could expect a scrapbook of their wedding, perhaps-- or something with pictures of them together in it. no, he founds intricate drawings and plans of a funeral. a coffin "lined with hibiscus and okra." the venue. they had already chosen a venue. words to be engraved on a tombstone-- he doesn't remember them, he doesn't want to. the paper is cold but soft and worn. like the sheets on a winter night, almost, except they're more important than that. he rolls them carefully, and then picks up the last one. "you didn't miss anything important. nothing important to you, that is..." he trails off, and turns to face erik, but all he sees is a silhouette in the fog. "i don't mean to be dismissive or anything, i just mean that the only people who care are the people who were here." he smiles, although erik can most likely not see. "it'd be gibberish, white noise to anyone else."ERIK ALEJANDRO (im so sorry this is late, ive been in holiday hell)

TAKE ME TO CHURCH i worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies i'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife offer me that deathless death good god let me give you my life He wonders how there could have been a meeting in this place with so much fog, though the thought is brief in passing as he finds himself drifting closer to the voice who responded. The man sprawled on the floor, surrounded by papers that Erik is far to polite to do much more than glance at in passing. It's none of his business, and according to this man, it's nothing for him to worry about. "Fair enough." He doesn't know how it wouldn't be important to him, though the smile grows on his face as the other elaborates. "No, no, I understand completely." Erik finds himself settling on the ground, crossing his legs over one another as he listens to Orfiel. A small pout crosses his face, though he nods in response. "Maybe if you explained it, it wouldn't be white noise? Think of me as a possible new attendee to your meetings."ORFIEL. |

'betrayal' is a funny concept. orfiel has convinced himself that he has never felt it. that he has enough foresight to know a person's true self before they can reveal. his family, his mother, his father did not betray him. he expected nothing more from them. not believing in him. ( but isn't it more than that? didn't they do more than that? it wasn't passive-- they didn't just "not believe you could survive," they believed you would die. ) he knew it all along. he could see it coming a mile away. if you keep telling yourself that, maybe it will finally come true.the fog does not faze orfiel. he has grown quite accustomed to concealing his identity behind masks. whether it be literal or figurative. ( the fog is as much a part of him as "orfiel" is. ) "not much to it," he grunts, holding a map out and gesturing to a few specific points. there are different sorts of markings all over. "i can't tell you what they mean. you'd have to find that out for yourself." he says calmly. he offers the map. there is nothing to hide here-- because there's nothing to see. unless you pay attention to the details, that is. "take a look for yourself, if you wish."ERIK ALEJANDRO

TAKE ME TO CHURCH i worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies i'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife offer me that deathless death good god let me give you my life Naturally, it wasn't going to be easy for him. Orfiel seemed to enjoy being more trouble than help, but Erik wasn't about to complain. He found that he enjoyed the mystery of it, the symbols and markings that filled the map making absolute no sense to Erik. He holds the map on the floor in front of him, taking the moment to bite on his lower lip as he traced the lines. After a moment he looked up at Orfiel, to pout and then back down at the map. "You were right about the gibberish part." But of course Orfiel was, that was what was to be expected wasn't it. "I thought most maps are supposed to come with a key." He shoots Orfiel a wide grin, leaning back a little. ORFIEL. |

"i have the key," he explains, pulling another roll of old paper out of a pocket. "but i can't just give it to you, just because you've expressed interest." orfiel steps closer to erik. "if you'd like, i can tell you where to go, and when, and we'll see if you show up." and he bends down and continues with his maps, until they are all rolled up nicely and tied. he slips a satchel off and packs it all up before he meets erik eye to eye once more. "where do you live, sir? how do you make your living?"ERIK ALEJANDRO

Erik cannot help the pout that crosses his face. "Understandable." To a point, but that doesn't mean Erik has to like it. He listens though, tries to keep himself from interrupting Orfiel, because his curiosity is piqued. He's too interested to just turn away. "I'll definitely try." Pout turning into a grin, he stands up, handing Orfiel the map. "I'd like to see what this is, at least." There's a part of him that wonders if he's getting into something bad, if he'll want to back out almost immediately, and he isn't sure if that'll be possible. So, he lies. "I live in Lower Town, kind of in a smaller tenement building. I do odd jobs to make a living." He wonders if that'll suffice. ORFIEL, done with post templates im sorry.
