[nospaces] so i will call upon your name she's set up in upper town among the stalls and the bustling people. there's a clean little glass jar not too far from her feet and in her gloved hands she has her harp. she's seated on a chair she borrowed from a male owner a couple of stalls over with her harp sitting in her lap, upright. she plucks a few strings, testing the sound before she starts. [break][break] she plucks the strings with practiced precision before her voice falls into place along with the music. it is barely audible above the noise of the bustling streets, but those who stop to listen can hear the songs of sin and sorrow that fall form her lips. some drop coins into her little glass jar and she sends them a smile and continues to play. her gloved talons play continuously, while her voice takes break often. the control she exorcises over it tires her quickly. she doesn't want to enchant the whole area, she just wants people to stop and listen. [break][break] (and maybe grace her with a few coin as well.) [break][break] CAMERON GUERIN

[nospaces] if i die young[break] bury me in satin[break] lay me down on a[break] bed of roses upper town is lively and clean. its streets are expansive, like the wealth of its residents, and everywhere loose coins shaken out of velvet pouches transform into exotic luxuries. the crowd carries him smoothly; then, caught between the pelts and the ivory, the current stagnates. [break][break] the song reaches him before he perceives the cause, thin glimpses of nimble fingers over shimmering strings and bowed head through the spaces in between the gathered bodies. her voice has him before cameron realizes he’s stopped to listen, realizes he’s leaning in closer. when her harp takes over as sole organ, the spell breaks. [break][break] his mind’s haze clears, his fingers unfurl. while she rests her voice, cameron moves to the front of the audience and cuts in over the plucked notes. [break][break] “excuse me, miss. it’s unlawful to cause an obstruction in a public street.”[attr="Class","pisces1"] ETTA[newclass=".pisces1"] margin-top: 5px; margin-left: 180px; background: #FF0000; width: 170px; padding: 5px 10px; text-align: right;[/newclass][newclass=".pisces1 a"]color: #000!important; font: 25px arial;[/newclass]

[nospaces] keep my eyes above the waves she hears his voice above the sound of the strings she's plucking, but for a moment, she ignores him. she continues playing until the end of the song. once finished, her fingers rest themselves and she focuses her attention on the human who addressed her while she was playing. [break][break] "is it unlawful to have manners as well," she asks. there is no hint of sarcasm or sass in her tone, it's a simple question. nothing more and nothing less. while waiting for his answer - or retort, she supposes it could go either way - she gets up and rests her harp on the chair she was formerly seated on. she then moves to pick up the glass jar, which is filled a little less than half with coins. she promptly pockets the coins without bothering to count them, they're for materialistic things. food can be hunted in the wilds of a city. [nospaces] if i die young[break] bury me in satin[break] lay me down on a[break] bed of roses the crowd disperses when the last note rings through and the harpist stands. those hopeful for an encore cast him brief, barbed glances but scatter without complaint—the bourgeoisie of upper town are more reverent of the imperial emblem on his shoulder, the crisp lines of his uniform, than offended for a street musician fishing for coins. [break][break] it’s only him who stays. smoothly cameron replies, “it's not mentioned in civil law.” the corners of his mouth turn up, eyes warm as his next words drip like syrup. “but if i was being impolite, it’s only because your voice was beautiful—dangerous enough to make people stop to listen and block the road.”[break][break] cameron doesn’t know how close to the bone he’s cutting. “what’s it like, having that sort of power?" [nospaces] When oceans rise a ghost of a smile appears briefly on etta's face before her lips are pulled into a neutral face once again. she walks back to the chair and picks up her harp before turning her attention towards the man once again. [break][break] for a moment, his honey-coated words make her blood run cold. he knows, her mind hisses, but she calms down her nerves and gathers her bearings. he does't know, she tells herself as her nerves settle and her insincts die down. he's just a human, he can't be that intelligent. "as an artist, it's a set-back because you never know if they like your singing, or the power that's behind it. as a survivor, it couldn't be better."[break][break] her words aren't lies, perhaps half-truths at best, but no, not lies because lies are so much harder to keep up with she finds. "also, if you don't want me in the road, where do you recommend i go," she asks as she absent-mindedly plucks at the strings of her harp. she doesn't know these streets well, advice from someone familiar with them is always useful in her eyes. [nospaces] if i die young[break] bury me in satin[break] lay me down on a[break] bed of roses he can’t read much into her blank visage, her placid eyes. like twin moons, they magnetize but he pulls away from the mystery. because heavenly bodies are meant to stay distant, because he is unambitious and self-enclosed, because her eyes veil a survivor’s story and he has one too, one he doesn’t tell. [break][break] where she is vague cameron is too. “it’s a gift, i think.” he touches the lapel of his uniform absently. “maybe you didn't ask for it, but it’s yours now.” you use it, and you survive, he thinks, but that’s too much to give away. [break][break] the singer’s next question is a welcome return to the concrete, the grounded. cameron considers the question, humming lowly in the back of his throat as he mentally maps out the area. “there’s a plaza not far from here. it’s open enough, and there are always people about. if you'd like, i can show you.”[attr="Class","pisces1"] ETTA[newclass=".pisces1"] margin-top: 5px; margin-left: 180px; background: #FF0000; width: 170px; padding: 5px 10px; text-align: right;[/newclass][newclass=".pisces1 a"]color: #000!important; font: 25px arial;[/newclass]

[nospaces] My soul will rest for a moment etta wants to lash out, i don't really care what you think. but she has to remain civil, keep up appearances, hide the talons under her gloves and stay low. she's here to make money for the materalistic things she might need in the future, hunting and fighting can be done at later times. times away from busy streets like this one and imperial guards like she assumes the man in front of her is. [break][break] "that's very kind of you," etta says, her lips once again pulling into a small smile before it disappears once agian. "if it's not too much trouble, i'd be happy to take you up on that offer." in one hand she holds her harp, in the other she holds the back of the chair, a little above the ground to keep it from scraping and making irritating noises. her eyes then wander to meet the man's gaze, "i'm etta, by the way."[break][break] CAMERON GUERIN[break] (dsajfhf, PISCES KEEP BEING AMAZING W/ UR WRITING PLS....)

[nospaces] if i die young[break] bury me in satin[break] lay me down on a[break] bed of roses her introduction gives him pause and locks his gaze to her own a few seconds longer. it’s simple courtesy etta extends, but a name is also an opportunity, the first step from a chance encounter to something more deliberate. he imagines the thinnest thread tied around a finger and wonders if he’ll remember her name in a week, in two. [break][break] “no, not at all.” cameron shrugs and turns away to look down the street, mouth tightening imperceptibly. “i’m cameron guerin. it’s nice to meet you, etta.” short and sweet, he finds—but forgettable. [break][break] “the plaza’s this way.” cameron points out the direction. they fall into step and a short silence, before he glances over at her instrument, her profile, the curve of her chin. “are you from here? or elsewhere?”[attr="Class","pisces1"] ETTA[newclass=".pisces1"] margin-top: 5px; margin-left: 180px; background: #FF0000; width: 170px; padding: 5px 10px; text-align: right;[/newclass][newclass=".pisces1 a"]color: #000!important; font: 25px arial;[/newclass]

[nospaces] in your embrace etta nods at his name, her silent acknowledgement. last names, she's never understood the need for them, never bothered to think up one for herself. realistically, she thinks she has no need for one. anything more than just etta leaves a longer lasting impression, an impression isn't what she needs. [break][break] at his question, she pauses to think. will he delve deeper if she answers his question? she assumes he will, humans are curious just as she is. will her truth be something she tells to him? no, she knows this for sure. "elsewhere, i'm a traveler," she says. "are you from here?"[break][break] CAMERON GUERIN

[nospaces] if i die young[break] bury me in satin[break] lay me down on a[break] bed of roses he knows etta’s referring to shara the city, the empire, when she says here, but his eyes drag over the pristine white-walled buildings and manicured roads upper town flaunt; his lips curl up anyways. at the thought that he might’ve been—could’ve been—a product of such cleanliness, instead of the dirty child of shara’s slums. [break][break] “i’ve always been here,” cameron answers. “i grew up in the city, and now i serve the empire.” he speaks with finality, like the empire is the be-all end-all, and closes the subject, doesn’t inquire further into her travels. [break][break] they turn the corner and the streets open up to meet the plaza, cobble-stoned and marked by a gurgling fountain in its center. leisure seekers with nowhere to go and nowhere to be mill around. “so this is it.” his words are as two-faced, double-edged as he is. [nospaces] for i am yours when he speaks, his words send a chill down her spine. the way he speaks of this place, of shara, of the empire, it makes her blood run cold. she could never serve something so out of her control and powerful and be happy, though she only assumes he is happy. she has no reason to believe otherwise though.
[break][break]
she smiles at him, "thank-you for your help." the words fall out as common courtesy rather than sincerity. she moves to leave him, set up her chair, her harp and herself somewhere where she'll grab the attention of the people. he slips from her mind as her fingers start to pluck the strings of her harp. her voice rings out once again and all memory of cameron the man who helped her seems to fade.
