it made him sick. sick to his fucking stomach. but the return was worth it, they were … likeable enough for sebastian to stomach a day or two onboard. he hated the sea, hated being aboard ships just as much, but. there is something distinct about the view he gets from being aboard. twilight is no more beautiful than from a zeppelin, but perhaps it’s the sense of danger that makes it truly beautiful. he doesn’t care, the ship is in sight and he is descending slowly. already he can see a small crowd gathering for him.
he’s in the center of small grabby hands and eager smiling faces. “show us show us! what is it this time?” “this time it’s a treat.” he’s opening his mystery bag and they’re pulling out “gold! it’s gold!” so they say. its jagged like shards and shines just like gold. they’re trying to break it, testing it. “look, real gold!” by now the older men have made their way to the circle and have taken the gold for themselves. it snaps in their hands and a golden goo drips out like honey. “its sweet, stickier and will rot your teeth.”
leaving the kids to their candy, “where’s the captain?” he asks one of the crew as he leaves the kids.

Ariel tries his hardest with the children. They haven't had the privileges he's had, most grew up without a mother and father. He tries to teach them all he knows, Ariel enjoys it really. Ariel realizes something is up when they are docked and the children run from their lessons, a few come back with talk of gold and Sebastian. He can't help but faintly smile at it all. He moves from his lax position in one of the chairs and places the book down on the ground carefully. He makes his way to the deck. He made it up in time to hear someone ask for him. "Lookin' for little old me?" He grins, and folds his arms. "Welcome back, Sebastian. Where'd you go? I wanna hear all about it." Everyone knows they are free to come and go as they please, hell, even Ariel does it. SEBASTIAN |

speak of the devil and it shall appear, so they say. so he’s heard. ariel was far from a devil, far from an angel though he tried. with the kids, mostly, but the sea is no place for kids. no place for anyone, really. “I’d rather hear about your stories, but it looks like you haven’t gone anywhere.” this ship is much like ariel drifting without any direction, perhaps that’s what’s drawn sebastian to it. perhaps. “I’ve got a place I’d like to show you,” he tosses him a compass from his pocket. it’s a regular compass in design but enchanted like the one on his wrist. “we can talk while you steer.”

He shook his head, nodding in the direction of the children. "Haven't been able to stretch my wings in weeks," his voice turns into a whisper, "they started to cry. I really couldn't take it." He grinned. He was soft, he knew this and so did much of his crew. He ran his ship with a soft, but firm hand. He wasn't a saint by any means though, but maybe, just maybe this was his way of repentance. He caught the compass, taking a moment to look at it, before he turned his head in the direction of the wheel. They had been anchored for a bit too long. The sea swallowed still targets. The sea swallowed everything in truth, this was no place for the spineless. "Sounds like a plan, leave us for a bit." He gestured to the kids, only to be met with reluctant compliance. It was better than them not obeying at all, he guessed. "Hoist the anchor! Open the sails!" He ordered, it was time to get a move on. When they make it to the wheel, he turned to Sebastian, he waited for the creaking of the anchor to stop and someone to yell that its up before he places his hands on the wheel. “there isn’t much to it, but I’ve found something.” he replies coolly. his knack of finding things is what makes him so welcomed. “a village. on the coast, surrounded by a forest. there isn’t much to it, a few homes, a church and a small dock in construction.” he’s watching the kids now, they’re running about the deck stirring up their own little mischief on the crew. “for them, for you. a place to call home, when the ship isn’t enough.” sebastian isn’t an open person, he keeps himself guarded like castle, but he’s revealed enough to ariel. ariel knows home and family are things he has ran away from with no intention of returning. at least, not to what he’s ran away from.
