It was raining. A simple statement really, but what bothered him about the rain was that there was a leak in the church roof that he had yet to been able to find someone to repair. Well, it seemed like there was more than one leak. Walking into the church, the blond felt a large drop of rain plop on his nose, causing him to flinch and scrunch it up. That was just another thing to add to the list of things that needed fixing. Callias wondered if the Fabel Church would ever be restored to what it used to be. It felt like it wouldn't. With a sigh, Callias continued walking down the aisle, scanning the floor for a piece of paper that he was sure he had dropped earlier. It had the address of a carpenter on it, one that had been recommended to him by one of the people living around Lower Town. The address, carpenter's name, name of their shop. Something like that. Callias hadn't exactly checked the note properly, but it was along those lines. Really, where had he dropped it?

It was rare to find a place with walls and a roof for a night’s shelter, even if the roof leaks and the walls let in chilled drafts. He is thankful just to be out of the rain. As a creature with an affinity towards fire, being drenched to the bone was less than ideal. So he lies on a pew with his cloak for protection against the few droplets that leak in from the roof, contented. He will sleep soundly tonight. A door creaked open, footsteps reverberating to fill the gap the door’s sound left. He shrunk into himself. He had thought the church abandoned, condemned. Never did he imagine that anyone else would come inside. Yet, those footsteps drew nearer and nearer until they were upon him. “Please let me stay,” he squeaked when his eyes landed on the visage of a priest and it became obvious that the church wasn’t as abandoned as he thought. “I’m sorry for trespassing.”CALLIAS FABEL

By the time he had found the note, laid crumpled on the floor just behind one of the pews, Callias had been about to give up and go home. He was about to bend over to grab the paper off the floor when he heard a fearful tone of voice to his left. Callias turned, spooked by the realisation that someone else was in the church with him. When his eyes fell upon the a white haired boy with a cloak covering his body as he laid across the bench, Callias felt a pang of pity. He was also still spooked, but he ignored that in favour of turning his body to face the boy, an expression of concern on his face. "No, it's- it's fine." His words betrayed his surprise. "You can stay, I was just surprised to find someone here. I mean, people barely come here any more and I guess it's because this place is in ruins and-" He was babbling. He quickly stopped, taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly, closing his eyes with the motion of breathing in. Then he opened them, returning his gaze to the boy, curiousity welling up inside him. "Do you have nowhere to go?"FINTANsoo sorry this is late, school's been hell for me lately

The man hadn’t noticed him until he spoke, a fact which made the bedraggled boy internally furious. He could have been overlooked if only he had kept quiet. But now that the priest knew he was there, was talking to him and assuring him his trespassing was fine, there was no backing out. “I thought this place was abandoned.” He admitted with downcast eyes, hands idly playing with the frayed edges of his cloak. “That’s why I came inside.”Admittedly, Fintan is surprised by how kind and friendly this man seems. His surprise hadn’t given way to anger. He talked on and on instead, babbling on about the church until he realized just how much he was saying and paused to let Fintan sill the silence with his own, meek voice. Now he spoke again, but this time a question, and one he expected. “No.” CALLIAS FABEL

It was unsurprising that the boy thought the church was one that had been abandoned. If Callias were a newcomer to Shara and he came to Lower Town, and saw the church - well, he would think the same thing. The blond watched the other person for a moment, his eyebrows creasing in a small v-shape as his eyes fell to the cloak. It was all understandable. Of course he had nowhere to go. There was no reason for him to have asked, but still, there was the tiny possibility that he had been dared by friends to go and sleep in the abandoned church in which a massacre had occurred in. Silly idea, but some kids were silly. "You can stay here, if you want." Callias sat himself down on the pew behind the boy's, taking a moment to pick the paper up off the floor and shove it in his pocket. "To be honest, this place is basically abandoned. I'm trying to restore it, but it's slow going." He twisted to lean one arm on the back of the pew. "Still, it's okay for you to stay the night - or, well, however long you're going to stay here. I think the attic room would be cosier than down here, though." During his inspection of what damage had been caused to the church, the attic seemed to have escaped most, if not all of it.

There was a story about the church, a reason it was in a state of disrepair. But Fintan never cared about human problems like a struggling church and its priest. He only cared for shelter and warmth. He only cared about surviving. This church was shelter, nothing more. Wearing a human's face, he had a role to play however. All for survival. Nothing more. Maybe a hint of curiosity made him ask though. "What happened here? If you're here, why does this church look like its abandoned?" He looked up at the priest with wide eyes, mirroring interest. "If you don't mind talking about it." The eagerness of this human to offer him shelter made him furrow his brows and shift uncomfortably under his warm gaze. His excessive kindness radiated through the dilapidated church, wanting to warm the damp air and the shivering phoenix. But he was only suspicious, on guard. He watched his every move. "I only need shelter for the night." He asserted, then his posture relaxed. "Can I stay in the attic?"CALLIAS FABEL
