o green world, don't desert me now | is is easy to run, as a dog. it is balanced and low, it is ducking and leaping and bounding; free. these two legs seem cumbersome, this girl seems out of place. in the woods, in itha's mind.
morning washes everything in a thin light. it illuminates the blood beneath her nails and the grime on her face, the smears on her glasses that she tried to wipe with a cloak just as filthy.
all of a sudden itha pushes them onto her face haphazardly; her heart is ready to leap out of her chest - she is sensitive to presence, to sound, to smell, now - when she hears the light sound of footsteps, she lowers her hood, whirls.
"who's there?" the forest is hers. she has no reason to be afraid. no reason but being miles from home and on the run, alone.

you're the magician's assistant in their dreams the first thing that caught cerul's attention was how dirty and downright pathetic the hooded figure looked. if magic didn't hang like a lamp around her small frame, muddied as it felt, cerul would consider her a waif. "this is a dangerous place for young ladies," the feyfolk spoke, the words drifting from between hanging branches east of the female's current position where he stood; leaning more like, against a tree. compared to itha he was the image of immaculate, long hair neatly falling down his shoulders and the black suit that covered the rest of his human guise. only thing out of place was the proud horns that hung from the sides of his head. "grime and blood does not go well with your complexion, witch. ... oh, you can stop fretting. i'm not here to cause you trouble-- not yet. i only followed the scent of distress because i do so love mortal drama.
what, or who, are you running from?"ITHA OREL

o green world, don't desert me now | itha sighs, loosening slightly when she sees the man. what looks like a man, but does not necessarily seem to be one. horns aside, he doesn't smell a thing like humans do. neither is it a familiar scent.
"dangerous." she repeats with a scoff. there is an incredulous note in her tone - because, yes, she knows danger. she is dangerous, and of course it occurs to her this creature is more dangerous, but she's not going to cower to his condescension.
"believe me, this isn't mortal drama." there's something proud in her when she says it, as if she's ascended past all of that.

you're the magician's assistant in their dreams for once the fey was at a loss-- her words and her appearance rose so many inqueries within his mind and it only further annoyed him that he couldn't get a read on her. what was that muddied feeling he got when he tried to feel deeper into her magic? "care to elaborate? you didn't answer my question," he spoke, the slightest hint of genuine something-- interest, need-- leaking into his calmly delivered words. if there was one thing cerul couldn't stand for it was not knowing things. monsters, maybe, he could abide by. there were so many species to keep track of and no matter how old he got he wasn't likely to see them all. mortals, however, were simple. easy. they served as entertainment and when they stopped... well. it's not like they served much of a purpose otherwise. something was ever so slightly off, though. he moved away from the tree, eyebrows raised in amusement with hands held high to signify he meant no harm; instead pacing around the edge of the trees. o green world, don't desert me now | her lips are parted, raised in something of a cautious snarl. he doesn't seem a threat, not in this moment, but she gets the impression that he could become one. but that isn't any reason to entertain him - he speaks as if she owes him answers.
she feels caged in by the path he circles around her, and itha turns to watch him. she doesn't have her magic to defend her but she can't feel him weaving any spells. it's only paranoia.
"i'm not here for your entertainment."

you're the magician's assistant in their dreams the fey would have to politely disagree but he wasn't dumb enough to voice that thought out loud. in the end, however, everyone was here for his entertainment. monsters, witches, humans, imperial soldiers to irkallan fishers. he had nothing in his life, no ties or binds or earthly tethers, aside from the amusement he received from other creatures. instead he met the budding snarl with a kind smile, not daring to move any closer to the creature. "you know as well as i do that i have no intention here to cause you any harm or trouble.
i just want to. talk." he spoke with sincerity, though he obviously wasn't giving the whole picture. he wanted to pick apart her brain until he knew every secret she held inside, and then deeper. "humor me. let's say i'm a witch, the scent of magic hanging from every thread of my being. let's say, however, that you see me and i've been running for what has to have been a good time, covered in bits of dried and drying blood, clothes ripped and muddied. i'm distressed, maybe scared, it's apparent. now let's say that you cannot doubt i am a witch, as you have already noted, but something is off. something you can't put your finger on-- something that makes you wonder and you do love wondering, but you love knowing so much more.
curiosity for curiosities sake, but you just want to understand. who is this strange witch that might not even be a witch at all, and what are they running from? or to?
now... let's reverse the roles back to how they are outside of hypotheticals, shall we?"

o green world, don't desert me now | it dawns on her, then, how long it's bee since anyone has spoken to her at length. she's been keeping her head down, saying little more than a snarling word in passing.
she cocks her head, listening with the elated awe of someone understanding a language they never learned.
but this is the language she's known all her life. she is acutely aware of the sting of her nails digging into her palms. she is clear-headed and rational, human.
"okay. so you get to know. and what do i get?" not that she's asking for anything grand, - but in her filth and fear, she's isn't feeling like a charitable jester.

you're the magician's assistant in their dreams his tongue quickly and discreetly dragged along his bottom lip, that kind smile turning slowly into something that was a bit more carnivorous. she did have a point, however. for once he didn't know what to offer-- did she even care about her future? her past? he'd have to bluff himself through this. oh, but he always got what he wanted, in the end. whether he knew what that was or not. he couldn't tell if she was growing more aggravated or more relaxed and it was beginning to unsettle him; in the way a terrifying, (relatively) age old monster of many tricks and a mental library of invaluable knowledge could be unsettled. "you have your point, so you have my offer.
ask simply what you might like in return and i could get it for you. fortune? favor? i specialize in the telling of fate, what has been and what could be, if that interests you in the least.
state your fancy and it shall be yours."
