He's not too sure how he ended up here. On the other hand, Caelin finds that he isn't particularly worried about it. After all, the Salt Desert isn't exactly an unfamiliar place. He hasn't been here too many times, but he knows someone who has been here more than a few times.
He knows the path, wanders along it for a little while. Caelin only stops to readjust the naga cranium resting over his head, before starting on his journey forward again. Follow the stones, the ones whose tops were smoothed over and nestled gently in the sand. At the end of the path, there will be a little hut, its door always open to him.
So he walks, coming face to face with a humble establishment. And instead of pushing his way into the shelter like the first time he'd been chased into it by rabid sand wolves, he knocked on the door, just like the owner of the hut had showed him.

yves does not like cleanliness. it leaves her with nothing to do other than 'important things.' when a cottage is clean, she has to be productive. she doesn't have anything else to do. but when a cottage is dirty- she can waste time cleaning it. and by the time she finishes, she's too tired to remember exactly what her 'important things,' were, so instead she paints or cooks. and then the place is dirty again.
it's a nice cycle. (maybe cleanliness reminds her of her old cabin. or of her father. maybe cleanliness reminds her that although her house is clean, her life isn't).
distractions are hard to come by in a small hut, living alone. visitors are a wonderful kind of distractions. yves cannot say in good confidence that she likes people, or monsters, but some of them are alright. the kind who like to listen to stories-- those are the best.
there is a knock at her door and she opens it without even looking through the window to see who it is. a man (or a boy?) and he wears a skull. yves is genuinely happy to see him.
"come on in," she says, offering him a droll smile.

It's been awhile since he's stumbled upon Yves. The majority of the time, the Salt Witch is taking up residence in a hut other than the one Caelin was visiting. Still, he tried to visit them when he was in the area. There was always a chance that he would run into her. This time, it had paid off.
She smiles as she opens the door for him, and Caelin gives the woman a small nod. Despite this, the small step he takes into her hut is slightly hesitant. After all, Caelin is used to the harsh terrain of Centerspine, not the cozy refuge this hut provides. In fact, it takes him a moment to reorient himself, far too taken in with fascination for the sources of unnatural light. Magic, he supposes, gazing at the bright orbs decorating its interior.
And then, he does something only when he feels safe; he removes the skull from over his head, clutching it between his hands. He gives Yves an expectant expression, as though to ask her where he might place it without creating an obstruction about the order of her residence.
