[attr="class","appbody"] [attr="class","appcat"]bio There is an old tale about a farmer and a snake. The farmer finds a snake half-frozen in winter snow, places it in the folds of his coat to save it from what would otherwise be certain death. When the snake thaws, it bites the farmer, killing him. In some stories, the hero causes the downfall of the monster. Others, he is slain by the monster instead. Yet in many stories - the untold stories, ones hidden from the ears of bright-eyed children who dream of the impossible and improbable - the hero falls because of his own naivete, done in by the barbs of inexperience that drill holes into his heart until it bleeds no more. There are no true heroes in this world, only those that see themselves as such, their pitying stares boring into those of lesser fortune. Have no fear, I will help you, they say, voices laced with artificial enthusiasm and optimism - the depths of their heart whispers 'what a shame, for you are doomed' but they refuse to say it, afraid to discard the paper-thin mask that they can no longer live without. It doesn't make us special in any way, mother sneers when he snickers at the true faces of these over-glorified legends. And it certainly doesn't make him any less of a waste of space. A copy doesn't exist without the original - what can he do that his brother can't do as well? Mother mutters curses as the bills begin to stack up, as strange men paw at their doors in the dead of night when no one dares set foot on a territory that temporarily belongs to criminals and thieves. Mother's presence around the house begins to fade, and he - they - are left alone, for the most part. Father hasn't come home since the day they were born, certainly won't start now. All he has left is his brother, his other, rather, but he wears the mask of sibling for fear of losing the only kin he has left. Strange men pound on the door one night, he falls asleep next to his brother but wakes up alone. Brother won't be coming back, mother says, but there's a strangely content look on her face as she counts the strange pile of cash that seems to have come out of thin air. When a copy outlives the original, what does it become? An earthquake topples their house one day, the money crumples and becomes nothing more than green paper fluttering beneath rubble - some of it escapes, shreds carried along by the breeze until it burns in the center of the sun. He makes it out alive, somehow, though he doesn't particularly want to be, but someone has to carry on brother's memory. The closest thing to brother is him, and if he has to adopt brother's mannerisms and behaviors, so be it - if he loses himself in the process, what does it matter? A copy's creation is only made possible by the presence of an original. (Can a copy become an original if the original no longer exists?) [attr="class","appcat"]lore & abilities Doppelganger, or doppelgänger, as it's known, the alter-ego or spirit double of an already-living person. It's said that a doppelganger has the same memories and feelings as the original person, and that seeing a doppelganger can be an omen of bad fortune, or even death. An eternal counterpart to the original, the doppelganger often performs what the original has yet to do - what actions they take, the original is sure to follow. He feels everything his brother feels, no matter how far apart they are. Emotions, memories, everything from the one he's counterpart to becomes a piece of him as well. He can't tell where his brother is, though - in Ethan's mind, the original is already dead and gone. Power to predict the future, but only in bits and pieces - he discovered this when a brief glimpse into a sequence of events actually unfolded seconds later. Fated to walk the path of the one he is a counterpart of, wherever he sets foot, the original is soon to follow afterwards. Their movements are not aligned, but separated by a large gap of time that fluctuates in given intervals. His presence is an omen of bad fortune. A cloud of bad luck hovers around him like a curse - the stronger he dislikes someone, the worse their luck will be around him. Some say that when a doppelganger is seen by the one it's a counterpart of death is soon to follow, but that has yet to be truly confirmed. | [attr="class","appname"]ETHAN CAVERLY [attr="class","appicon"] [attr="class","appstats"] AGE: 019 SEX: M RACE: DOPPELGANGER HOMELAND: SHARA CONTRACT: Y [attr="class","appquote"]DO YOU THINK THAT I'M ME OR NOT ME? |
