There's always going to be people who aren't okay with her line of work, and Alya's solution is simply to leave them biting the dust. Expansion's only got a bad name when it's the other people doing it. The Irkallan government's the one that's opening up new frontiers of trade and prosperity for everyone, all without the moral inconveniences of an occupying force.

(It doesn't help that she grew up on a farming hamlet out east, and sneaking off to gaze at the Irkallan sky is the only fantasy she's ever known.)

She wears responsibility across her shoulders like a cloak that belongs there. People tell her that it's a good look on her, even as she's dying to tear it off. She doesn't. She's a big sister to four, and it's something that's already grown into her skin.

Why do people fight for the gaze of the goddess when a unified vision permeates every bit of lush green and rotted soil? Seeing is prayer. Alya doesn't actually know if there's a goddess or not, but she knows that there's something good in this world, something worth exploring and preserving. She's your stardust girl with the hummingbird heart, collecting bits of the world here and there until she's got enough to prove that the world is still worth hoping for.

(What do you do with the ugly bits? The pieces weigh too heavily in her hands to simply discard. Alya doesn't know what to do with them. She pockets them for the day when she finds the puzzle that they fit.)



Alya's physical ability is top notch for a human and she could probably beat down most people with little more than her fists. Failing that, working for the Irkallan government means that she also has access to guns that misfire much less frequently than the standard model. A lot of her work involves travelling and camping, so her ability to track and hunt game is also rather high.

Rune technology is sweet. She thinks that it would be sick as hell if they could be integrated with Irkallan technology, even if some of the purists would balk at the notion. Alya totally hasn't been tinkering with that stuff with her witch friends in her spare time. What are you talking about.
