[attr="class","appbody"] [attr="class","appcat"]bio I. You remember seeing little kids decorated with smudges of lipstick on their face. It was strange to you for a time. The only things your mother would leave you with were stains of purple, yellow, and black. She cleverly hid them beneath your clothes and made you promise that no one would know. They were a special secret to be kept, just between you and her. She told you that if you told anyone, they would take you away from her. To your ears, it sounded like quite the fanciful idea as you got older. Sadly, one shake and one threat too many kept you from talking. And when you did try to tell someone, your lips would only cave in on themselves. It convinced so many people that you were dim or wasting their time. They knew you wouldn't talk. So, they eventually stopped trying to get it out of you. There was no point in trying to get a bird without a voice to sing. II. When you were nine years old, your favourite thing in the world became a leather bound tome. Or diary, rather. It was an oversize thing that your father made after he saved you from a life of being painted purple. Having raised a son, your older half brother, for so many years, he did not know much about what little girls liked. He saw you doodling and scribbling about spells quite often that he thought it was a practical enough gift. It immediately became your treasure that you still, to this day, hold close and fill with secrets you would otherwise keep to yourself. III. For several years, you would be awake until the sun rose. You thought that living with your father would free you from your mother, but she still clung to you like heavy, wet clothes. Everything she did weighed you down and made it hard for you to go about your life as a normal girl. You would get into states where drowned from feeling everything at once or felt a sandy dryness from feeling nothing at all. At your worst, you would stain your bathroom in red and scare your father. He tried to help you the only way he knew. He found a witch that taught you how to make a certain potion. To this day, you don't much care for the taste, but you love the way it turns your moods around. Maybe more than you should. IV. You were fourteen when you made your first friend. Like two extra, unneeded pieces of a puzzle, you didn't not fit anywhere other than with one another. He became your saviour and looked out for you in a way no one else had done before. In return, you'd grab a hold of his scarf, then pull him out of a fight or listen to whatever it was he had to scream about. Over the years, you became his keeper. It is from this self-imposed obligation that you tried to keep everything that was wrong with you under a tight knitting of smiles and coffee. If not you, no one else would be able to take care of him, as there's no one else who could. V. The two of you took residence together several years ago. With your talents on opposing sides of the magical spectrum, you make a living with your crafts. He'd be paid to lay a curse upon someone or maybe cause a haunting. Then when the victim gets tired of their misfortune, they'll come to you to undo it. The fact that the two of you live and work under the same roof is a well-kept secret. For the business (just imagine how many would be pissed off at learning the two of you create a vicious cycle out of their lives) and for the sake of keeping prying eyes away. In these times, it would be curious that an unmarried man and woman would live together. [attr="class","appcat"]lore & abilities +NONVERBAL MAGIC // Most witches require some form of incantation or words to bring their spells into being. The ability to go completely without speech isn't a complete rarity, but it isn't often for one with such skill to crop up. Marlene has been mastering working on this for as long as she could go about using magic. However, with spells that require a great deal of energy (group spells, strong AoE spells, conjoined spells, etc.), she may have to speak in order to guarantee success. +WHITE MAGIC // As the school of magic primarily used to help others, Marlene has been perfecting her skills in it since her early teens. She is an extremely proficient healer, but is also regularly asked for curse and spell negations, exorcisms, area cleansing, and ward placing. Her shields are a force to be reckoned with. Her main source of revenue comes from her aptitude in white magic and reversing whatever Aeron places upon people, as she is one of very few that can do so without a horrible backfire. +MYSTICISM // The purest form of magic with sway to neither the white or black arts. While it can be used in a great variety of ways, Marlene takes advantage of it in enhanced awareness, shape shifting (always into small animals), and telekinesis. When used offensively in energy manipulation, one might be able to sense the slightest taint of black arts, due to her upbringing. She tries to purge it with excessive use of white magic. | [attr="class","appname"]MARLENE D.
