being better than her brother has never been a concern. being on par with her brother has never been a concern. althea believes that everyone has something different to offer. that's why she must secure the empire's relationship with the many recognized champion of the state. she wants them all on shara's side for different reasons. but althea, do you really consider yourself as a "mind?" do you see yourself as a "fist?" do you offer anything specific- strategy, power, intelligence, care, level-headedness-- anything?(all you can give is yourself. and if it means bodies on the ground, if it means your own mangled body on the floor, so be it.) she dresses in satin and wool and sets herself up in the imperial meeting hall. this campaign against irkalla is not eleanor's first. not even close -- an empire as large as shara's has needs. especially with the monsters roaming just outside the door, howling into the night and barred entry only by a wall made of flesh and blood.
it means that when the empress calls, she has actual work that she needs to be doing, has set tasks to complete. but she comes anyway. when the owner tugs the leash.
eleanor arrives actually wearing her dress uniform -- the fabric is stiff, chocking, and hinders her movement. she hasn't worn this piece of clothing since it had been issued to her when she'd first entered the army. but this is not a regular meeting, and these are not regular circumstances.
(in their own way, the stiffening dress uniform becomes a shield.)
she is not required to disarm before meeting the empress; another nod to her championship, though the guards watch her warily on her way into the imperial meeting hall. eleanor expects nothing less, and ignores them all. her eyes are only on the red-haired woman.
she does not curtsy; eleanor is not that kind of woman. she bows, one hand over the heart. our hearts to the monarchy, the empire, the people. three guesses as to which of them is true.

"not because i know you. and not because my brother did." she takes a breath. "i saw your name on a document. simple as that." she offers a smile but it's fake and everyone can tell.
