you're the magician's assistant in their dream another day, another periodically unobtrusive moment in life which tells of nothing interesting-- not yet. the sensory spell placed neatly around the fey's house shimmered with urgent whispering inside of cerul's mind, causing him to sit up just a smidge straighter in his seat; jolting him out of his daydreaming. it was a small cabin, built not to draw too much unwanted attention to the feyfolk. a few mortals knew of the monster as a monster but even fewer actually cared- as long as he remained in his passive lifestyle, doing nothing more than the occasional glamour and fortune telling. the presence didn't feel too overtly threatening... however it was so hard to get a disposition on a person you haven't yet seen, let alone spoken to. regardless it should be entertaining, in some way or another. cerul smelled magic. there were two rooms, a bedroom in the back (though he rarely slept); and a front room that consisted of a small kitchen (stocked only for aesthetic purposes) and the round table, with two chairs, (cerul currently occupying one of them) where cerul did his readings. a curtain of beads hung in front of the only door into the house, charmed to reflect anyone with violent intentions from fully entering. The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Fortunately, Castion was not righteous. His own journey to this quaint cabin had been untroubled and pleasant. It was a mild day outside. He stood outside of the door and the shower of beads that covered it hummed pleasantly to his ears with a gentle song of magic, notes twining around each other like roses on a garden fence. Not that he knew anything about roses or music. He was only standing here, with his hands in his pockets, because there were stories about witches who lived outside the city, and Castion was a jealous man. Or not jealous. Say rather, hungry. Hungry for both his lord and the power that came with him. Hungry to keep his place. He was not here with ill intent but with the fierce possessiveness of the starving. He knocked on the door. you're the magician's assistant in their dreams a quick illusionary spell wove itself around the horns of the fey at the sound of the knock-- just something that would make them unnoticeable to the eyes of others, even cerul himself. the scent of magic hung in the air and he wasn't going to take chances of being caught by a powerful witch. while he was sure he'd be able to take most anyone that'd venture out here on... it would be trouble he didn't need. irregardless he gracefully rose from his seat, a silk purple robe hanging from his frame and drifting along the floor with the movements of his feet. he dulled the excitement that might show in his eyes and snapped a tarot deck into existence upon the table before stopping at the door's knob. a curt turn later and he was giving castion a look over, expression melting to bemused and moderately confused. he had a different feel about him than most customers... but a mortal is a mortal and they all had such wonderful things locked away inside their simple minds. "hello, dear traveler. am i right to assume your business here is for a reading of mine or, perhaps, do you just happen to be lost?"

Castion smiled. "I'm sad to say that you'd be wrong on both counts," he said, not sounding sad in the least. "I am neither lost nor interested in whatever show you put on to convince the desperate that you can tell them their future. I came because the people of Thebes have the most curious tales of witches who live in the mountains. They make it sound like there are dozens of you up here, dancing around bonfires dressed only in black feathers."He looked pointedly at the silk purple robe, but continued without a verbal comment. "I am the new arcane adviser to the Lord of Thebes, and as such I consider it my duty to investigate all non-imperial witches operating in the city and outlying lands. I have no interest in sanctioning you, fear not. I merely want to talk. Perhaps we can even learn from each other."CERUL D'AMORECODED BY ELECTRIC OF HK

you're the magician's assistant in their dreams cerul was first hit with a twinge of annoyance before bemusement took the reigns and he was languidly leaning back. that actually perfectly described his current feelings-- he was oh so awfully bemused with the show of power and authority from a mortal. to him, of all things! not that cerul gave a shit where this guy came from or what his business was if it didn't concern the fey's work; but he really didn't need the empire thinking ill or suspiciously of him. that'd be a lot of work and backtracking that he was too lazy to face. so he stepped back and waved castion inside, wary eyes piercing the other. "i see. while i must assure you that my readings are true i understand that some people cannot possibly grasp the concept.
and the feathers only come out on weekends."
nothing about the feyfolk was outwardly aggressive but there was a slight undertone of condescension with each word he spoke, an eyebrow raised. "how kind of you," he finally mumbled out at the mention of avoiding a sanction, moving along the floor as he spoke before stopping at his table and toying with the tarot deck laid out. "it's an honor to have such a high class resident of thebes come to check out someone as inconsequential as me. my life is all my work and sleep-- same as anyone else, i suppose.
was there something specific you wished to talk about?"CASTION MEDESS

"Most witches who are not imperial servants and wish to practice their trade must sell spells and curses to keep afloat," Castion said. "And yet here you are, in a most unfriendly region, and rumor only says that you tell fortunes. Surely there are not so many brave souls that would venture out here merely for a tarot reading that they could keep you afloat if they only paid with gold. I am interested in what your prices are; what you ask for in return for your truths."
He shrugged. "But honestly, I have no real interest in you, or if you torment the local peasantry. I only wish to let you know that if you are a threat to the lord of Thebes, or intend him harm in any way, I will destroy you. I have been visiting all the local witches for such chats, as I said. I am merely interested in being prudent. None know better than a witch, after all, of the havoc that a witch can wreak."CERUL D'AMORE CODED BY ELECTRIC OF HK

you're the magician's assistant in their dreams god, this kid was asking for it. cerul had to give him some points for his easy and straightforward curiosity but otherwise-- especially with that whole ranting warning-- cerul was very tempted to send his ass to an astral plane. "people would do and give a lot to know what's awaiting them in life, officer of thebes," he stated. thin fingers slid under the card at the top of his deck and tugged it, snapping it sharply down and staring at the image on the front. the fool. how fitting. ironic, even. "i happen to be quite good at what i do. you want to know what i charge? secrets. yes; not money, not food, just word of mouth. those things locked so deeply within your heart that you dared not tell a soul. it's a pity, actually, as everyone has such interesting stories to regale...""i have more knowledge about everything that happens in thebes- and sometimes elsewhere, should someone be desperate enough- then you or anyone else in the empire could ever hope to obtain. i know every affair, every misdemeanor, every prayer and hope and dream of every citizen within those walls. it's... an amazing feeling, actually. i love it."his neck popped with its tilt, shifting until one hip is pressing into the table and his eyes are boring directly into castion. "i have no intention of becoming an enemy to anyone, let alone the whole of the empire, so your threats are baseless. you have nothing to worry about. after all..."a very faint smirk drew on his features, eyes lighting up briefly. it was so subtle and it disappeared so quickly that one could question if it was ever there at all. "i am no threat."CASTION MEDESS

Castion burst into cold laughter. He scrubbed a hand through his hair and canted his hip against the table, a mirror image of Cerul's pose. "They trade you their deepest, darkest secrets for a reading? They deserve whatever they get." There was almost admiration in his tone. "Congratulations on your business savvy. Although I apologize for my lacking manners. My name is Castion, and you are...?" CERUL D'AMORECODED BY ELECTRIC OF HK

you're the magician's assistant in their dreams There was something both tasteful and tasteless about the witch that Cerul couldn't describe exactly and found rather peculiar. Kind of enticing, but in the way that the fey was wondering what his heart might taste like. Ptu.Oh well, his line of thinking seemed similar to his own. Maybe that's what was rubbing him the wrong way-- a mortal that could possibly think himself on equal terms with a monster? Ha. "Mm, quite.
Cerul, the fortune teller. It's a pleasure to meet you\, Castion of Thebes. Was there anything else I could help you with...?"
